Fri, 25 Apr 2008 21:20:28 PDT-Everett "Sonny" Grandelius, Michigan State's first 1,000-yard rusher, died Friday. He was 79. The university said the All-America fullback died in Beverly Hills, Mich. The school didn't provide details on the cause of death. In 1950, Grandelius became the 17th 1,000-yard rusher in college football history, running for 1,023 on 163 carries to help the Spartans to an 8-1 record.

He even suggested he'd like to keep coaching longer. "Realistically, at my age, if I go three, four, five (more) years, that would be great," Paterno said.

Penn State coach Joe Paterno spent several hours at a hospital being treated for dehydration before returning home late Thursday. The 81-year-old coach had been working at home late in the morning when he began feeling nauseated and was taken by ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center, team spokesman Guido D'Elia said.
